Creative Art Director. Maker of Things.
I bring both practical ideas and ones that make clients nervous. Then I figure out how to make them real. Twenty years making things for brands like Amazon, Zillow, and ServiceNow. Agency side and brand side. The kind of work that people actually remember and occasionally share.
I like being close to the work. If something needs making, fixing, or figuring out, I'm probably already in it.
I've always been drawn to new tools. AI is the most game changing one in a while. These days it runs through my whole process. From concepts and scripts to visual development and rapid prototypes. When the right tool doesn't exist I build it. At ServiceNow I led global AI campaigns that helped some of the world's largest brands understand what it actually means to put AI to work. The goal wasn't to explain AI. It was to show people what they could actually do with it.
Away from the computer I build things in my workshop. No briefs. No stakeholders. I enjoy the quiet of fishing alone and the banter of golfing with friends. At the end of a long day, I pour a scotch and call it research.
Oh, and it’s pronounced Baloo. Just like my favorite cartoon character.
“Don't spend your time lookin' around
For something you want that can't be found
When you find out you can live without it
And go along not thinkin' about it
I'll tell you something true
The bare necessities of life will come to you”
Wise words from a wise bear.
A few of the brands I’ve had the pleasure to work with:
Alaska Airlines, Amazon, AWS, Bose, Cedars-Sinai, Cobalt, DoubleDown, EA Games, ESPN, F1, Houston Methodist, Infosys, Jaguar, Laver Cup, Microsoft, NFL, Nike, Papa Murphy’s, Seattle International Film Festival, ServiceNow, Scion, Six Nations Rugby, Sony, Target, T-Mobile, Vizio, White Pass Ski Resort, Windstar, Xbox, Yokohama, Zillow
Fun fact:
Once upon a time, both of my daughters were cast in a Papa Murphy’s Halloween commercial. The tears are very real. But so are the memories.
We'll pretend we met at a conference.
